What is your Legionella Risk?

27 July 2016

A hospital, an engineering company and a care home. All very different. But examples of organisations fined in the last 18 months for safety failings connected to legionella. Here are some resources to help you manage your legionella risk.

Legionnaires’ disease is a potentially fatal form of pneumonia and everyone is susceptible to infection. The bacterium Legionella pneumophila and related bacteria can be found in man-made hot and cold water systems. In certain conditions the bacteria can grow, increasing the risks of Legionnaires’ disease.

As an employer or landlord, it’s vital you take the right precautions to reduce the risks of exposure to legionella to:

  • manage any risks
  • prevent or control any risks
  • keep and maintain the correct records

The HSE website has a range of helpful guides and articles to help you carry out a risk assessment, manage the risks and keep records to document your risk management.
